Independent Study can be highly successful for students, teachers, business men and women, housewives, and farmers of every age. In this case you do not join a prescribed program but, rather, I customize a program exclusively for YOU. It doesn't matter how old you are (my oldest "student" was 78!); it is only necessary you understand that, out of a group environment, you will be required to take care of your own needs and think independently. If you request a host home, be aware that it is not a hotel. You will be expected to show maturity and personal responsibility, and to participate in the host family's daily activities and chores.
 Do you want a unique living arrangement? Are you coming alone or bringing your entire family? Do you want a Homestay or an apartment? (Apartment requires visitor be over 21 years old) Would you enjoy city life or living in the country? Maybe on a ranch with farm animals?Are you looking for specialized classes of study? An art school, cosmetology course, golf lessons, cooking lessons, a private English tutor, music lessons, horsemanship lessons or ??Want a chance to work as a volunteer for a specific cause? I just had a Japanese woman from a Veterinary College in Japan stay in California for 2 months and volunteer in a Veterinarian's clinic! Another visitor volunteered daily in our local "Animal Save" recycle shop. Another served as an assistant teacher at a school. As a volunteer, what is your passion?Maybe you have an unusual job and want to live temporarily with an American in the same profession. This can be arranged.Would you enjoy researching a hobby up close, and personal? Sports, nature study, ecology, organic gardening, cooking, fishing, amateur radio??
